Store's Description
Notcutts has been operating since 1879 and has a reputation for quality and service. The brand was founded by William Notcutt, who trained in nurseries in the UK, America, and Holland. He completed a horticultural degree from Bath University and joined them as a nurseryman in 1992. He then went on to work in all aspects of the business and rose to the position of Group Managing Director in 1999. He became Deputy Chairman in 2007 and has since launched his own diversified business.
After 40 years, the original gardening shop needed refurbishing. The company decided to move to its current location. the firm then opened a purpose-built garden centre, where they could meet the demand for plants and stock. The new centre was a success, and locals and newcomers alike enjoyed browsing the selection of plants. As the name suggests, the new location is a great place for gardening enthusiasts!
Notcutts' history is rich with horticultural history. The company first opened a nursery in 1869 in Ipswich. The company expanded to Woodbridge after a family member suffered an illness. Notcutts nurtured several apprentices in the garden centre during that time, and the name has been carried on by several generations. In the 19th century, Roger Notcutts became involved in the Royal Horticultural Society's Flower Show Committee and continued to grow plants and flowers for many years.
