Store's Description
When choosing door locks, there are several factors to keep in mind. The backset is the distance from the edge of the door to the centre line of the prepared cross bore hole. In order for a lock to fit in the appropriate position, it should be at least 2 3/8 or 2 3/4 in backset. Door locks with a backset of less than 2 are not compatible with this type of door. For example, Schlage locks are not compatible with a door with a backset of more than 2 3/8 or two and a half inches.
A padlock is the most basic type of door lock. It can be large or small and is used on doors with a low degree of security. A padlock is an easy-to-bypass device because it is not attached to anything, and instead locks into itself. There are several different models of padlocks, which are typically grouped by size. Each model has a corresponding key holder, which raises or lowers the shoulders to enable the other side of the door to lock or unlock.
Spring bolt locks are also popular. They are designed to automatically lock when the door is closed, so that no one can open it without the key. These locks also include a strike plate, a metal part that connects the knobs on the door and operates the lock mechanism. If the strike plate becomes damaged, the door can't be opened. Fortunately, spring bolt locks are easily replaced, and can be easily re-installed if necessary.
